OCTIEF have opened a mobile NATA Accredited Asbestos Testing Laboratory to assist in the recovery and rebuild post-Tropical Cyclone Marcia.
The OCTIEF Rockhampton/Yeppoon asbestos laboratory can provide same day analysis and identification of asbestos samples, air monitoring and fibre counting, asbestos audits and inspections, clearance inspections and certificates.
Samples can be dropped off at Octief Laboratory C/ – Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Building A Reception 25 Yeppoon Road, Parkhurst QLD 4701.
State Emergency Services regional director Steve Gollschewski warned there was some asbestos in older homes in Rockhampton and in Yeppoon. He said residents beginning to clear out older homes should check first before knocking out flood water-damaged walls, as reported by the Brisbane Times on 22nd February.

About Tropical Cyclone Marcia
Tropical Cyclone Marcia was a Category 5 severe tropical cyclone that made landfall at its peak strength over central Queensland, near Shoalwater Bay on the 20th of February 2015. The cyclone went on to affect various areas including Yeppoon and Rockhampton. It reached Yeppoon as a Category 4 system, then traversed over the regional city of Rockhampton as a Category 3 system on the same day. Eventually, the cyclone weakened, moved southeast out to sea, then dissolved. TC Marcia caused at least A$67 million worth of damage.
